Powerful Dua for Forgiveness - Sakeena Academy

We all sin as Muslims and occasionally deviate from the straight and narrow, but it’s crucial to acknowledge our transgressions and sincerely seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT). We can recite some of the most potent dua for forgiveness. Being able to identify our sins is a gift from Allah and acts as a catalyst for repentance.

Istighfar is the act of seeking forgiveness in Allah. In a Hadith, Abu Hurairah (RA), a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him) reported:

I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying: “By Allah, I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]

It has been narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) sought forgiveness a hundred times daily, showing us the significance of this act.

Here are some dua to recite when asking Allah for forgiveness.

Dua for Forgiveness

There are many supplications you can recite dua for forgiveness, here are just a few:

1. The Best Way to Ask Allah for Forgiveness

The Prophet (PBUH) taught us a powerful way to seek forgiveness from Allah. It is called Sayyidul Istighfar—the most superior supplication for seeking forgiveness.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is:

The Prophet (PBUH) then said:

“Whoever recites this during the day with firm belief in it and dies before evening, he will enter Jannah. And whoever recites it at night with firm belief in it and dies before morning, he will enter Jannah.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari, 6306)

Seeking forgiveness is usually done by saying “Astaghfirullah” or the longer version “Astaghfirullāha rabbī wa-atūbu ilayhi)”.

You are The One who brings forward and reprieve as You wish and indeed You are over all things capable.
